The study program of the Master of Arts in English Literatures and Literary Theory offered at the University of Freiburg is a 2-year full-time taught study program comprising four semesters. Students will work intensively with literary texts of all ages and genres, from medieval to modern times, while courses on theoretical approaches like structuralism, postcolonial theory, and disability studies have the same weight. The students will be introduced to a wide variety of theories about literatures that can be brought to bear on the critical interpretation of any text and that allow them to develop their own methodological approach. Besides purely academic work, this study program also incorporates practical and interactive elements-you may go on an excursion to an English-speaking country, teach a tutorial, or participate in a conference.
