The M.Sc. Geology from the University of Freiburg is an English, research-oriented four-semester Master's program that aims to confer far-reaching scientific competencies in structure, composition, and development of Earth systems. The main characteristics of this course include the combination of fundamental geological knowledge with modern methods of analysis, field training, and laboratory training, enabling students to acquire a specialization in various fields, such as mineralogy and geochemistry, geomechanics and tectonics, geohazards, or applied Quaternary geology. By means of theoretical course work, elective specializations, and an independent research project, students will be qualified to independently analyze geological processes and natural hazards and contribute to various fields of both scientific and applied geosciences.
