Deggendorf Institute of Technology (German: Technische Hochschule Deggendorf, also DIT) is a Bavarian public university that brings together technical excellence, global perspective, and a powerful student-centric culture. Founded in 1994, it has developed as one of the most vibrant Universities of Applied Sciences in the area.

Accreditations & Quality Assurance

Quality and reputation are fundamental to DIT's values. It has been system-accredited by the well-regarded German agency ASIIN since September 2020. All of its degree programmes are externally or internally accredited; many have undergone stringent peer and quality review. This means that both local and international students can trust that the degrees meet high academic and professional standards.

Programmes & Language of Instruction

DIT offers a broad spectrum of bachelor’s and master’s degrees (approx. 65) taught either in English, German, or both, depending on campus and programme. On the European Campus Rottal-Inn (Pfarrkirchen), courses are taught mostly or entirely in English, with German language instruction for foreign students. On the Deggendorf campus, several programmes are bilingual or German-language programmes; some international programmes start in English and switch to German in subsequent semesters. For those who lack sufficient German proficiency, there is a preparatory semester (“Let’s Get Started”) to bring students up to the required level.

Facilities, Support & Student Life

The campus is new, well planned, and constructed to cater to both study and extracurricular life. The Deggendorf campus has been expanded recently, with modern courtyards, water features, accessible facilities (wheelchair access), service centres, workshops, etc. Students benefit from several support systems: an International Office, a large Language Centre, Career Services, and electives (language and other) to build broader skills. There are also student clubs, an Erasmus Student Network, plenty of cultural events including a summer open-air music festival, and various sports options. Housing for students is relatively convenient: there are student apartments and residence halls within walking distance of campus and town amenities.

Location & Lifestyle

Deggendorf is a Bavarian town, picturesque, comfortable, and offering a high quality of life. It sits along the Danube River, with access to nature (river, forest), and yet isn’t too isolated — the city centre is close to the campus, which helps in daily life. Living costs are moderate compared to big German cities. It also offers cultural life: concerts, theatre, festivals, student events, and sports (including competitive university sports).

Why Choose DIT

1.High level of internationalization: ~200 university partnerships globally, consistent intake of exchange students through Erasmus+, and numerous programmes delivered in English.

2.Quality and accreditations guarantee degrees are taken seriously.

3.Language support: German lessons, electives, preparatory semester, licensed exam centre for German proficiency (TestDaF, telc).

4.Small classes & personal attention: Many programmes have small group sizes to ensure more support.

5.Good balance of academic + lifestyle advantages: Beautiful setting, manageable living costs, vibrant student life, and strong career services.

Admission & Requirements

To enter a bachelor’s programme, you’ll need a university entrance qualification equivalent to the German standard. For masters, a relevant bachelor’s degree is required. Language requirements vary with programme: English proficiency (often B2 or higher), German depending on whether the programme will use German. If German skills are initially insufficient, preparatory routes are available.
